30,331 prisoners lodged in Bihar jails

Altogether 30,331 prisoners were lodged in 55 central and district jails in Bihar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.


Replying to a question, he said the total number of prisoners lodged in 55 central and district jails in the state stood at 30,331.

The jails were almost filled to capacity as there was space for 33,937 inmates in the jails.

There were eight central jails, 31 districts jails and 16 sub-jails in the state, he said, adding that there were several jails under-construction at present and once these projects were completed, the lodging capacity would rise to 46,116, the parliamentary affairs minister said.

He also added, a total of 52,343 criminals have been convicted in the state since 2006.
